2017 PFLAG New Orleans Scholarship Program – New Applicants

You must be
1. Self identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer…or anywhere within the LGBTQ “family.”
2. A resident of the state of Louisiana at the time of application.
3. Seventeen years old, or older, by April 15th of the award year.
4. Applying to attend (or currently attending) a post-secondary educational institution.
Terms
1. Award recipients must be present at the awards ceremony May 13, 2017.
2. Awards are paid jointly to the student and the institution and are meant primarily for tuition and fees. Under no circumstances will the award be paid only to the student.

2017 PFLAG New Orleans Scholarship Program – Previous Recipients

This application is for applicants who have previously received a PFLAG New Orleans scholarship.
If you have not previously received a PFLAG New Orleans scholarship, please submit the application for new applicants.

2017 PFLAG New Orleans Scholarship Program – Straight For Equality Nominations
NOMINATE HERE
This site is for those individuals who are nominating someone for the PFLAG New Orleans Straight For Equality scholarship.
REQUIREMENTS ELIGIBILITY:
1. Identify as a straight ally of the LGBTQ+ community.
2. A resident of the state of Louisiana at the time of application.
3. Seventeen years old, or older, by April 15th of the award year.
4. Applying to attend (or currently attending) a post-secondary educational institution.
PROCESS
1. An individual student must be nominated/recommended by another individual who is familiar with the student’s academic record as well as the activities in which the nominee has participated that promote equality within the LGBT+ community.
2. The nominee must accept the nomination.
3. The nominee will then be provided a link to complete an application.
4. The nominee will request two letters of recommendation when completing their application. The first letter will be from the nominator. A second letter of support must be received which either substantiates the nomination letter or presents additional information as to why the nominee should be selected for the scholarship.
5. The nominee will request their most recent academic transcript and it will be attached to the application.
6. The nominee will provide a copy of a Louisiana Driver’s License or state issued ID.
7. The selected recipient must attend the scholarship reception which will be held on the evening of May 13, 2017.
CRITERIA
The criteria utilized to select a recipient will be based on (1) academic achievement and (2) active participation in events, organizations, etc. which promote equality for the LGBT+ community.
The PFLAG New Orleans Scholarship Program offers between $1,000 and $10,000 to LGBT & Allied students.
